Didi Sakhvlari is the only human settlement within the borders of Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. Living in the middle of wilderness, this small community strongly depends on natural resources, while human-wildlife interactions are bound to be intense, often leading to conflicts.
The project, Elimination negative impact on Environment via development of Ecovillage Concept in Sakhvlari and awareness raising of local communities is supported by the Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRD) and it aims at developing an Ecovillage concept for Sakhvlari. We also intend to work closely with the community to empower them and raise their awareness so that they become more actively involved in tourism and nature conservation.
The ecovillage concept implies putting less pressure on the environment while promoting Sakhvlari as an Ecovillage will attract more visitors, which can create alternative sources of income for its community.
